FEAST 2016 it's Magical

Another year, another FEAST Anothology. This year's themes were "Mummies, Magic, Mansions, and Helephino"- I went with Magic, or more precisely, witches. Witches can be fun. 

There's two parts to participating in FEAST- the silent auction, and the published book. For fun I decided that both pieces feature the same characters, but in contrast: young, old. light, dark. Indie comic style, my own style. ya know..clothes, no clothes?

The Auction piece: Friendship is Magic

Friendship IS magic. Are they friends? Are they sweethearts? Only one cat? I tried drawing in a more indie-esk cartoony style to set a more playful mood. Plus I've been really digging indie styles like you see in Stephen Universe- so why not?

Feast Anothology piece: Magic

We see our girls a little older- a little more serious, and very cold, indeed. I would imagine this is what magical cat ladies look like.

Gold Leaf series

Last handful of weeks I've been focusing on a series with gold leaf. Learned a few things along the way. First, air condition vents love moving gold leaf. Second, gold leaf can find its way into many parts of your home should you let it. Or not let it. Gold leaf has a mind of its own.

Also learned the merits of basic things, like elmers glue.

The series will be going to the Hyph3n gallery in the quarter- across the R Bar, which we all lived at during one time or another during our lives.

My focus after this will mainly be towards my new mini webcomic: comic pasta. It's a participation-based comic! I have some left over character designs just laying around, so I took to fb asking what they wanted me to do with them. "Pogo stick basketball", "daddy long legs with a baby face", and "serial killers craft group" are just a few replies I got- all amazing. Can't wait to really dive into these!

But for now- women drenched in gold leaf. A series we call "golden showers" ( and if you're not laughing at that, then there's no hope for you)

I've been working with a local writer on creating pin ups of all the main characters of her sci fy series. So human teen girl stuck in space with sexy humanoid guys? Done and done

What was fun about this project? She wanted them in a different anime styles. Its good to flex my illustration muscles and tippy toe out of my comfort zone.
